We knew it wouldn’t be long before Chloe went to the ER for stitches. The child is so accident prone that I’m surprised she still has all her teeth. Chloe loves to be like her big sister, and when big sister is twirling like a ballerina, well so then will Chloe try and twirl. This time, the coffee table one that fight. I was SO thankful we happened to have friends over for supper this particular night, and that she was a nurse. Chloe fell on the table, was scooped up by our friend Jill, handed over to me and with a look on her face that made Vaughn ask “We need to go don’t we?” her reply “Yeah, you need to go.” So off we went with our youngest with a gash on her cheek and left Callie with Smoak and Jill so she wouldn’t have to wait in the ER with us (I’m SO thankful for this!!)
On the way she didn’t cry, but her eyes were so sad. We were afraid of a concussion (she hit it that hard) so I was talking and singing with her as much as I could. We arrived at Richland’s ER at 7:45ish, signed in, and hurried up to wait. Chloe was called back 20 min after signing in to get vitals checked, and then we were escorted to another waiting room. There we watched the entire movie of Princess and the Frog, and the start of another movie. It was maddening. Our sweet baby just needed a couple of stitches and yet we waited, and waited and waited. Chloe thought it was fun having mommy and daddy to herself and played (gross) with everything.
We were finally called back and saw a Dr. who said the cut was too deep and that he’d have to stitch it, not glue it. They put some medicine on her to numb the cut. And that’s when we got to wait some more with a now EXTEMELY tired, grumpy little girl. She finally fell asleep and then it was time to clean the wound, numb it some more, and stitch her up. While she was asleep they wrapped her up in a ‘papoos’ to keep her arms from getting to her face. Then they went to work, and she lost it. A nurse held her head, I held her arms, and the Dr. worked as fast as he could. Poor Vaughn was not okay seeing his baby so upset, he might have left the room at one point, can’t say I blame him!
Three stitches later we were set to go home, it was now 12:15am. Longest hours of our lives, and I hope that we’ll never go back. We were given instructions to see our pediatrician in 4-5 days to remove the stitches, and to keep Neosporin on it as much as possible. Thankfully Chloe is one tough cookie and is taking this whole thing a lot better than I would. It’s funny how you learn how to handle certain situations differently through your kids…
P.S. This sign was in our room and brought some laughter to Vaughn and I. We both asked each other walking out if we had our dentures….
