Granger Girls on the Go

PART II

Day two of our trip we went to another museum, National Geographic, then down to the mall to see a festival and all the monuments!  Callie was pretty bored at the NG museum cause a lot of the items you couldn’t touch- but there was one section where she could- and she has a blast!  One of the exhibits was a room of mirrors- “who’s that other girl?!” :)

While we were in the big city, our mode of transportation was the Metro.  It wasn’t the easiest to navigate with a stroller, but we managed- thank goodness for my parents!  Callie held on like a true riderWe headed to the mall where there was a festival going on.  We took part of the food and exhibits.  Callie especially looking at the fish!

Next was the National Monument- it was much larger than I ever remembered it.The White HouseWhile we were walking from the National Monument to the Lincoln Memorial Callie took a little snooze- paci and pillow are a must with this little one…While on the way to the Lincoln Memorial we came across the WWII Memorial. We had to stop and take a look because my dad’s father- my Papa- served in the war.  Mom and I found South Carolina’s column- and it was “famously hot” in the nations capital, just like SC’s. We also came across a fountain that listed the major battles of the war, my grandfather fought in the battle of St. Lo, we were so happy to see something to recognize where he fought and so many other’s in his company lost their lives. While at the Memorial, we saw Marine One fly by!  I’d like to think that the president was on board, but not sure.  It flew by about 5 times while we were there- maybe trying to throw everyone off- but still cool!Like I said, it was VERY hot while we were there so refilling the water bottles was a must!We finally made it to the Lincoln Memorial and it was amazing!  we tried to get a picture of Callie and me with Pres. Lincoln- but he’s so big it was pretty hard… :)  We needed to cool off for a bit so Dad found a nice spot on the back of the monument with a breeze, so we hung out for a little bit and enjoyed the view.Next stop, Arlington Cemetery.  One of the most gorgeous places you’ve ever seen.  We did our own tour of the cemetery, first stop was JFK’s grave and the eternal flame. 

Next was the Custis-Lee Mansion which has the best view of the city.  You can see the Capital, National Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Pentagon from it’s porch. We then made our way down to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Every thirty minutes there is the changing of the guards for the tomb, and it’s military precision as you’ve never seen it.  I took TONS of pictures of this because I was amazed by it.  During the changing of the guards, they ask that you stand and not talk. There is even a sign that states you are not allowed to have chewing gum.  Plus, who doesn’t like to look at these guys- men in uniforms are the best!

Callie didn’t was to abide by the quite rule so much so Mom took her down to a bench to play.  I got a picture of them, and it’s now one of my favorites! SO, there is day two of our trip!  Next, Pentagon and traveling which I didn’t get pictures of, but will update anyway.
