A Rowland Beach Week tradition is Ghost Crab Hunting, where we go out after it turns dark to look for crabs on the beach. While we are searching for crabs, we tend to stumble across a treasure map leading us to “Booty!” This year, T-Shirts were made for the kids, they said “Sunset Beach Treasure Hunter.” There was a ceremony to hand out the t-shirts, they had to be prepared at a moments notice to head out!
A few nights later, it was time. We have several “signs’ to let us know that that particular night was the night to go out. Another ceremony was held. Each kid was called up to the table and given a Pirate name. We had Squidney (Sydney), Keeper of the Compass Kennedy, Mary Clam, Crustacean Callie, Stingray Stevie, Captain Jack, and Katie K Whale.
After each Treasure Hunter was called and name given, they had to take a pledge, hand on the head of course.
They pledged to share the “booty” with each of their fellow Treasure Hunters, a pledge that came in handy later….
Then we were off! We headed down towards the beach to see what we could find! After finding a treasure map
and it leading us to a sword and X marked by shovels it was time to start digging!
Buried Booty!! All were excited! (Stingray Stevie) (Captain Jack) As they pledged, we took the booty back to the house to divide it up amongst the treasure hunters Everyone was excited that we found treasure yet again this year! It’s amazing how that happens isn’t it :)
